With the schedule for the Edinburgh International Book Festival now officially announced, I can confirm I will be appearing alongside Karen Campbell on Sunday 22nd August at 6pm.
Karen and I are, apparently, two novelists stretching the boundaries of crime fiction. That, at least, is our billing! The hour-long event will be split into readings, a chaired discussion and finally a Q&A with the audience. Karen’s latest – Shadowplay – was published to terrific reviews in May this year so I, for one, am eager to hear more about how and why she writes. Shadowplay follows After the Fire and, Karen’s debut, The Twilight Time. Each novel has been equally well received and is available, as they say, from all good bookshops. If I get the chance to ask a question myself, it will be concerning the pleasures and pitfalls of committing to a character-centred series. It is not a leap I am planning yet myself but Karen has clearly managed the task with some aplomb.
Tickets for our event are £7 (£5 concessions) and are available at www.edbookfest.co.uk or on 0845 373 5888. The festival as a whole runs from 14-30 August. I very much hope to see you there.
