News: The House to be published 2017
The wait is over. It will have been five years since The Child Who hit the shelves, but I can now reveal that my new novel, The House, will be published in 2017.
Even more exciting from my perspective, I recently signed a new, two-book deal with Viking (Penguin Random House), meaning I’m also aiming to produce a follow-up novel for publication in the following year.
So what can I tell you about The House? It’s a bit of departure for me: a psychological thriller inspired by my love of Alfred Hitchcock. It’s a dual narrative story about a young couple who move into their dream home in London, only to find out that they have become involved in a sinister game. When a local man is murdered on their doorstep they feel they have no choice but to tell the world their tale.
Here’s what my amazing new editor, Katy Loftus, said:
‘Simon is an original and brilliant writer whom I’ve admired for a long time, and this is undoubtedly his breakout novel. Everyone wants to know where the thriller genre is going next, and all I can say is, I have never read one like this.
‘With its spookily prescient setting in London’s gentrifying suburbs, and the most compelling husband-wife narrative I’ve read since Gone Girl, this book had the entire Viking team hooked. I really couldn’t guess where it was going next, and the twist blew me away.
‘Viking is tremendously excited to be publishing Simon, and I can’t wait to work with this extraordinary writer who brings something completely new to the genre.’
Which is generous enough that I can feel myself blushing, and to which I can only add I’m tremendously excited myself – not only to be working with Katy and the Viking team, but also to have a new novel so close to publication.
It’s been a long time coming, as I say. I just hope, when you read it, you feel it was worth the wait.
